The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law condemns the confirmation of Steven Menashi to a lifetime seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.  Kristen Clarke, president and executive director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law issued the following statement:

“The Senate’s confirmation of Steven Menashi is a devastating blow for those Americans who care about the fairness and independence of the judiciary. President Trump continues to put forth nominees who are unqualified and who threaten the reputation and integrity of the courts.  That a majority of the Senate chose to turn a blind eye to Menashi’s egregious record is an affront to African Americans and other people of color, immigrants, the LGBTQ community, and women who look to the courts for equal justice under law.  President Trump could not have found another individual with a record more hostile to civil rights for the seat once held by the Hon. Thurgood Marshall.”
