Courtney Spellacy

Vice President

Courtney Spellacy is Vice President of Development at the Lawyers’ Committee, where she leads all elements of and fundraising and partnerships. Courtney has two decades of diverse organizational and development experiences working with individuals, corporations, advisors, and foundations.

Prior to the Lawyers’ Committee, Courtney was with the ACLU for ten years leading their development, partnership programs, and board engagement in three state affiliates in Massachusetts, Southern California, and Arizona. Most recently, as Deputy Director and Chief Development Officer at the ACLU of Massachusetts, she was engaged in strategic planning, communications, advocacy and was responsible for record fundraising to complete the affiliate $100 million Centennial Campaign.

Her work connects philanthropy and advocacy in meaningful ways and has led to important advancements in civil rights. She is proud to have been a part of the ACLU’s victories in Arizona, against Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his unconstitutional attacks on Latinx and immigrant communities, and in Southern California, producing trendsetting national policies on digital security and racial profiling, and in Massachusetts expanding access to voting and advancements in police reform.

Previously, Courtney spent a decade in Washington D.C. fundraising for several international non-profit organizations. A Minnesota native, Courtney studied International Affairs at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon, and earned her M.A. in International Peace and Conflict Resolution at American University in Washington, D.C.
