On Sunday the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a Friday ruling that stopped Virginia’s unlawful voter purge program. Virginia was sued because its purge program disenfranchised new citizens and other eligible voters.

The plaintiffs are Virginia Coalition for Immigrant Rights (VACIR), the League of Women Voters of Virginia (LWVVA), and African Communities Together (ACT). They are represented by the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Campaign Legal Center (CLC), Protect Democracy Project, and Advancement Project.

Statement from Ryan Snow from the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law:

“For the second time in three days, a federal court ruled Virginia’s purge of eligible citizens is unlawful. This was a unanimous verdict by the appeals court. It should be crystal clear to Governor Youngkin that it is illegal to remove eligible citizens from the rolls just days before the election. We urge the Supreme Court to stop this madness and make it clear that it is unacceptable to block eligible citizens from voting.”
