The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois issued an opinion in a case brought by Chicago Women in Trades (CWIT) challenging anti-Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion executive orders.
In response, Sabrina Talukder, senior counsel with the Economic Justice Project at the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, which represents CWIT, issued the following statement:
“The district court in Chicago Women in Trades v. Trump reaffirmed its earlier decision granting a nationwide injunction barring the Department of Labor from enforcing the certification provision in the anti-DEI Executive Orders. That provision requires federal grantees and contractors to certify that they are not promoting activities the government deems to be ‘illegal DEI’. The court held that the scope of the injunction is consistent with the Supreme Court’s ruling in Trump v. CASA, finding that enjoining all enforcement remains necessary to provide CWIT with ‘complete relief.’”
