Lawyers’ Committee Commemorates 60th Anniversary at the White House

On Monday, August 28, 2023, President Biden welcomed the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law to the White House to celebrate the organization’s 60th Anniversary. Hundreds of guests–including U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, U.S. Assistant Attorney General and former Executive Director of the Lawyers’ Committee Kristin Clarke–attended.

President Biden and President and Executive Director of the Lawyers’ Committee Damon Hewitt spoke to the organization’s mission and work, and how they are as critical and urgent today as they were 60 years ago, commending the dedicated and talented attorneys and strategists that lead and carry out our charge.

“Together, we must continue the fight with the same urgency felt by those lawyers who assembled 60 years ago,” said Hewitt. “It’s on all of us to continue the march forward.”
