About the Voting Rights Project
For four decades, the Lawyers' Committee has been at the forefront of the legal struggle to achieve equality and protect advances in voting rights for racial and ethnic minorities and other traditionally disenfranchised groups. Today, that tradition continues. With the indispensable assistance of private law firms, the Voting Rights Project is an integrated program of litigation, voter protection, research, advocacy and education.
In Voting Rights, we use a variety of approaches in our quest for equality. Our team litigates impact voting rights cases – cases that will either have a significant impact on the law itself, or that will impact a significant group of American citizens. We also advocate for voting rights reforms and enforcement with federal, state, and international bodies – a significant part of our advocacy is done by a Voting Rights Project initiative – the National Campaign for Fair Elections, legal lead of Election Protection, the nation’s largest nonpartisan voter protection coalition. Also we are working to ensure that there is a full and accurate count in the 2010 Census, and that the interests of minority groups are properly reflected in the redistricting that will follow.
