Voting Rights Act:

OBJECTIONS AND OBSERVERS

The Lawyers' Committee's Voting Rights Act: Objections and Observers searchable index is the most comprehensive resource available for analysis of objections and observer coverage under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Users of this page can search for and print copies of objection letters sent to jurisdictions covered by Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act after the Voting Section of the Department of Justice determined that proposed voting changes were not entitled to preclearance. Users can also search elections that have been monitored by federal observers.

Before using this page, users are encouraged to read the instructions on how best to access the letters and observer reports contained in this searchable index.

If you have questions about Section 5 or how best to access the information in these pages, please e-mail us at: Section5@lawyerscommittee.org.
