George N. Lindsay Civil Rights Legal Fellowship

Andrea Loveless

Andrea Loveless joined the Lawyers' Committee in September 2007 and is the tenth recipient of the George N. Lindsay Fellowship. She works with the Employment Discrimination Project to challenge the systemic barriers faced by minorities and women in the workplace.

Andrea is a 2007 graduate of George Mason University School of Law where she was an active member of the student body. Andrea co-founded and served as President of the school's ACLU Chapter and was President of the Women's Law Association. She planned numerous events that brought in speakers to discuss issues such as the death penalty, reproductive rights, military tribunals, and NSA wiretapping. As a member of the Moot Court Board, Andrea was part of the team that won the 2007 Domenick L. Gabrielli National Family Law Moot Court Competition. Andrea also planned a student trip to New Orleans to provide legal assistance to those affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

During law school, Andrea selected internships that would cultivate her interest in public interest and civil rights with a focus on employment discrimination. Andrea spent her first summer working with low income clients at Legal Services of Northern Virginia. During her second year, Andrea had an internship with a civil rights law firm that specialized in individual and class action employment discrimination cases. That summer, she worked at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's office of Legal Counsel where she further developed her knowledge of employment discrimination law. In her third year, she interned for the Honorable Dennis J Smith at the Fairfax County Circuit Court, performed research for a study of death penalty cases for the Federal Judicial Center, and was a law clerk at a boutique civil rights law firm.

Prior to law school, Andrea graduated with Honors from Boston University with a B.A. in Mathematics, after which she spent three years working as an actuary for both a pension consulting firm and an insurance company.
