David Tipson
David Tipson is a Staff Attorney in the Housing & Community Development Project.
He handles a variety of matters on the Mississippi Gulf Coast to assist communities devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Specifically, David works with local community development organizations, advocacy groups, and public interest lawyers to provide needed legal support to a variety of efforts, including the rebuilding of housing and communities, preserving historically African-American communities, and assisting groups developing plans to preserve neighborhoods and natural ecosystems against encroaching commercial development. David works out of the Lawyers’ Committee office in Washington, D.C., with frequent travel to the Gulf Coast. David also works closely with pro bono counsel in the Gulf Coast and a local affiliate, the Mississippi Center for Justice, to provide legal services to hurricane survivors. David plays a critical role in developing client relationships, identifying client and community needs, and cultivating resources to meet those needs.
Prior to joining the Lawyers’ Committee, David worked in the land-use law practice group at Robinson & Cole, LLP in Hartford. As an associate, David represented clients in matters relating to land-use and zoning law, urban development, and historic preservation.
David graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University and has a joint degree in law and urban planning from the University of Virginia. David is a member of the Connecticut and District of Columbia bars.
